Failure to search

Here is an old video of Arthur failing to search for an object. This is a classic task developed by Jean Piaget, which I always talk about in class.  Piaget thought it meant that infants don't have any mental representations.  Once they couldn't see or touch something - it stopped existing for them.  Out of sight was really out of mind. 

Most researchers now think that infants are smarter than Piaget thought, but it is still a cool effect.

Tellus mirrors

A few weeks ago we made another visit to the Tellus science museum north of the city.  Arthur got pushed around in his stroller through several of the galleries, but he did get out and explore in the kids' section.  Here is a video of him by a cool mirror. 

The effect doesn't show up in the video, but when you were there the reflection looked like it was in front of the mirror.  That is what he is batting at.

We have been sick with a cold, so we've been slow to update the blog. I just emptied off our video camera again and will post a few clips for this week.

 We took advantage of a January buy one get one deal and toured Turner Field.  It was chilly, but a nice outing.

The day after Christmas, right before grandma and grandpa left, we went to see the lights at the botanic gardens.  It was cold!

Apparently, the way to stop a dalek is to block it's visual sensor (as demonstrated here).

Christmas 2012- dinner

Despite the smiles here, Arthur didn't make it to dinner.  After all of the excitement, he took a nap while the rest of us ate.

We had a great visit to the Georgia Aquarium with Grandma and Grandpa.  Arthur was very engaged for most of the visit.
